My Go-To Breakfast: Yogurt Bowl with All the Fixins

Fit With Littles is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a comission.

I am not a breakfast person. In fact most days I would skip it altogether.

Why?

  • Pancakes, waffles, french toast… it’s way too desserty for the first meal of the day.
  • Cereal is… meh. And empty calories.
  • During my third pregnancy, I developed an egg allergy so now my preferred high-protein breakfast is not a possibility.

However…

I’ve learned that if I want to be #fitwithlittles I need to give my body the fuel it needs for the day.

The Recipe

Full Disclosure:

I really hate having to scroll through pages of writing and advertisements when I am trying to find a recipe on a blog.

Here is my promise to you:

If I ever share a recipe with you, I promise I’ll include the recipe at the top of the post to make your life easier.

  • Add granola and drizzle with local honey
  • Add fruit of your choice

It’s that simple!

The Result

Greek Yogurt

I used to think yogurt was more of a snack than a hearty breakfast but boy was I wrong! Greek yogurt is full of protein and probiotics which are just so necessary to a healthy life.

Seeds

I add chia and flax seeds because they add some of the nutrition I often lack . My iron levels and digestive health could always use a boost.

Peanut Butter

I’m always looking for extra protein so I add peanut butter (homemade has less sugar and is even more delicious).

Local Honey

Does local honey help with allergies? I think so. I can say for sure, but it seems to help me and my family. Plus, it’s delicious so it certainly doesn’t hurt, am I right?

I buy my honey from the Amish market down the street. However, beekeeping seems to be a growing trend which means local honey is starting to be more readily accessible.

Bonus for our health and our lovely pollinators!

Granola

Here’s the thing about granola (and basically every other food on the planet). Make sure you’re only adding the correct portion size. It’s so easy to overdo it because let’s face it… granola is delicious! But be careful because too much granola can add more calories and sugar than your body actually needs.

Also if you need a good homemade granola recipe, Kristina at Around Our Family Table has a great recipe here.

Fruit

My husband loves bananas in his yogurt bowls. If you know anything about me you know that I hate bananas and this is never my choice.

I buy bulk bags of frozen fruit and add a few pieces to the top off my bowl. In my opinion, the tropical mix is the obvious choice, especially in the summer months but I also strongly believe that blueberries and strawberries are great as well (especially if you add peanut butter to your bowl).

Enjoy Your Breakfast

And have a great day, my friends!
